Iolite-A Precious Stone
Iolite is derived from the Greek word. The meaning of iolite is violet. It is the beautiful violet-blue gemstone, which has its own unique beauty, which attracts the people and added them into its fan list. Chemically this gemstone is belonging to the family of cordierite (mineral).aluminum sediments trapped in the igneous rock when magma cools. The resulting mixture of aluminum and iolite gemstone gives magnesium aluminum silicate. The unique property of iolite is that it disperses or scatters the various colors of light when incident on it at different angles. This is due to the reason that it emits that wavelength that is not absorbed by it. Sri Lanka, Brazil, India, Myanmar and Madagascar are the major supplier of this gemstone.
These gemstones are used as the polarizer for navigation purposes. It helps to locate the position of sun. Its hardness is measured in mohs scale with a 7-7.5 ranking. It is destructible due to presence of cleavage inside it which results it into splitting of two parts. Cleavage helps this stone to get in the rings or pendant but they must be wearing with care since they may break into pieces. For cleaning the gemstone you may toothbrush or piece of cloth soak in warm soapy water.
